One Family Career Mentoring Program

Become a One Family Career Mentor and join a network of professional women who are helping mothers break the cycle of poverty and homelessness. The purpose of the One Family Career Mentoring program is to prepare One Family Scholars for a successful transition from college to career. Career Mentors offer industry-specific career advice to their mentoring group and share professional experiences and success stories. Small groups of Scholars are paired with a Career Mentor in their field. The small groups meet five times during the academic year.

Qualifications: One Family seeks professional women who have a minimum of a bachelor's degree plus five years of management experience in one of the following fields: Biotechnology, Business and Finance, Criminal Justice, Education, Healthcare, Human Services, and Law.

Responsibilities: One Family Career Mentors are asked to:
  • Offer career advice to a small group of One Family Scholars in their field
  • Help One Family Scholars develop professional skills in the areas of time management, business etiquette, effective communication, teamwork and career planning
  • Share professional experiences and successes
Commitment: One Family Career Mentors are asked to:
  • Attend a Career Mentoring orientation
  • Meet in person with their mentoring group every two months
  • Stay in regular contact with One Family Scholars in their mentoring group via telephone or email
  • Commit to being a Career Mentor for one year

One Family holds orientations for Career Mentors in the fall, with additional opportunities to sign up as a Career Mentor throughout the year.

One Family Scholars Lunch and Learn Program

The One Family Scholars Lunch and Learn program provides a unique career development opportunity for One Family Scholars.

Through the Lunch and Learn program, Scholars visit an employer's work site and learn directly from employers about career opportunities and professional expectations in their field of interest.

This program also serves as a valuable recruitment source for talented and diverse candidates for summer internships and permanent positions.

Lunch and Learn sessions are 75 to 90 minutes long and include an interactive lunchtime presentation about the company and industry, along with a tour of the work site (if applicable).

We ask host companies to invite a small group of employees to join One Family Scholars for lunch and an informal Q&A session about the industry.

To learn more about hosting a Lunch and Learn session at your company, please contact Valerie Paric at vparic@onefamilyinc.org or 617-423-0504 ext. 203.
